Georgia Stormwater Management

Georgia State Overview

In August of 2000, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) issued the NPDES General Permit GAR100000 which regulated stormwater discharges associated with construction activities that would disturb five (5) or more acres. On August 13, 2003, the permit was reissued and broken down into three separate general permits regulating construction activities where one (1) acre or greater of land disturbing activities will occur:

  1. General Permit regulating “stand alone” (not part of a common development) construction sites (GAR100001).

  2. General Permit regulating infrastructure (not part of a common development that is being conducted by an infrastructure company or infrastructure contractor) construction sites (GAR100002).

  3. General Permit regulating common development (a contiguous area where multiple, separate, and distinct construction activities will be taking place at different times on different schedules under one plan of development) construction sites (GAR100003).
