Curriculum: Introduction to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System

The Introduction to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permitting Program will educate individuals of the permitting process and compliance standards of Clean Water Act's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.

Learning Objectives

Specifically, you will learn:

  • The history of the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program, and Construction General Permit coverage;
  • General permit definitions;
  • Regulations and the role they play in preventing pollution from entering neighboring waters;
  • The coverage parameters a site owner or operator can expect from the NPDES general permit;
  • The Notice of Intent (NOI) filing process;
  • NPDES and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) standards and conditions;
  • The Notice of Termination (NOT) filing process.
