RI Awareness Program Overview

StormwaterONE’s online Rhode Island General Construction Stormwater Awareness Course:

  • Provides an introduction to the problem of stormwater runoff from land disturbance activities.
  • Introduces management options available to prevent and reduce impacts.
  • Outlines soil erosion, runoff, and sedimentation basics, impacts, and compliance.
  • Discusses fundamental construction site planning and pollution prevention.

* This course is also required for any practitioners or professionals intending to take the higher level courses (Levels 2, 3, and 4)

 

Intended Audience

The intended audience for this course includes anyone involved in the planning, review, or implementation of land disturbance activities in the state of Rhode Island, including:

  • Municipal officials/staff, board and commission members, and other regulated MS4s
  • RI Department of Transportation, RI Department of Environmental Management, and Coastal Resources Management Council managers, staff, and contractors

Learning Objectives

The main objective of this course is to introduce you to the causes and consequences of stormwater pollution in Rhode Island and the opportunity that those involved in land development projects have to control pollution from soil erosion, runoff, and sedimentation.

Specifically, you will learn:

  • The state of stormwater management in Rhode Island.
  • Fundamental concepts about erosion, runoff, and sedimentation.
  • Construction site planning and pollution prevention.
  • Basic control measures for erosion, sediment and runoff.
  • Principles for keeping a construction site compliant.
