QISM Program

QISM Program Overview

TheQualified Industrial Stormwater Manager (QISM) credentialing program consists of eight (8) online chapters, culminating in an exam where you'll showcase your skills through a submitted action plan and site design assignment to earn your credential.

This program educates individuals to prepare and inspect Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) in compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program.  

As a QISM, you will also receive the education which qualifies you to inspect and maintain industrial sites for stormwater compliance as well as create the Industrial SWPPP. This program covers the principles and practices of industrial stormwater management as well as the proper reporting and documentation requirements for ensuring compliance under the NPDES permit program.

Curriculum

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the components and framework of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program. 
  • Describe the proper installation and maintenance of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). 
  • Identify the steps necessary to inspect industrial sites and determine possible causes of BMP ineffectiveness and how to correct them. 
  • Understand the necessary components and portions needed for the creation of the Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan 
  • Explain how to complete an inspection report and document corrective actions. 
  • Summarize the communication process necessary between owner, operators, contractors, and stormwater pollution prevention plan designer so the site stays in compliance throughout the industrial coverage.
