Stormwater Management Program Overview

This Level 2 program covers installation and maintenance of key erosion, runoff and sediment controls as well as how to recognize when control measures are not working properly.  It also covers implementation of good housekeeping and pollution prevention measures and what to expect from onsite construction inspections. 

Intended Audience

The intended audience for this course includes anyone involved in the planning, review, or implementation of land disturbance activities in the state of Rhode Island, including:

  • Municipal officials/staff, board and commission members, and other regulated MS4s
  • RI Department of Transportation, RI Department of Environmental Management, and Coastal Resources Management Council managers, staff, and contractors
  • Field staff working on construction sites
  • Builders, developers, and subcontractors

Curriculum

Learning Objectives

The main objective of this course is to provide you with an understanding of the basic principles and practices of erosion control, runoff control, sediment control, and pollution prevention on a construction site.

Specifically, you will learn:

  • How to install and maintain key erosion, runoff, and sedimentation control measures.
  • How to recognize when control measures are not working properly.
  • How to implement good housekeeping and pollution prevention measures.
  • What to expect from onsite construction inspections.

Due to high erosion rates, construction sites are by far the largest source of sediment that pollutes water resources of the United States.
