Certified Erosion & Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) - Oregon
Overview
This Ecology approved Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) certification is required to perform stormwater monitoring and inspections on construction sites.
This program consists of:
- Six (6) Self-paced interactive online courses that include BMP installation videos, and
- One (1) 6-hour Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) class.
The VILT day is broken into three (3) sessions. This video conference format allows you to communicate with your instructor and collaborate with fellow learners.

CESCL certifications are valid for three (3) years.
Note: All construction projects within the State of Washington must designate at least one (1) person as the responsible representative in charge of Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC), and water quality protection. For projects larger than one (1) acre, the designated person shall be the CESCL who is responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal erosion and sediment control and water quality requirements. (Local jurisdictions may require CESCL certification for sites less than 1 acre, neither does the CSWGP, except in limited cases.)

- Summarize the communication process necessary between owner, operators, contractors, and stormwater pollution plan designer so the site stays in compliance throughout the construction project.
